A Web Restoration for a
Big Island Favorite.
This popular Kawaihae Bar & Restaurant was looking for a major make-over from their original website. Their old site maintained little to no relevance to the actual charm and character of their restaurant. Being a classic tiki bar with local Hawaiian fusion dishes, our vision was to elevate their brand in a way that would reflect its unique tiki environment. Its rich wood interior ornate with nick knacks makes for a fun space, begging to be represented online.
Branding
Taking a Classic and Making it Relevant.
The main goal was to represent their current space by combining both graphics, typography and imagery to help target a wider audience. Tiki bars are usually dark and have character. Paired with beautiful popping colors of cocktails and delicious food we were able to successfully feature their spectacular dishes.
Our first step for building the site was to create a visual language . We started with some graphics that help tell the story of their cocktails. We wanted to create stories around their drinks using graphics and illustrations that both compliment and contrast the images.

Additional Illustrations Paired with Featured Food Photography
We were given the opportunity to not only design their site but to photograph the interior. Its space was filled with everything from old Scuba masks to vintage glass fishing floats. Through their incredible menu and unique space, we were able to create a visual representation of what it really felt like. We ended up featuring rich dark lit interior shots and images of colorful cocktails associated with tiki bars. We also created fun illustrations to complement their cocktails and dinner items. The end product was an easy to navigate site with a contemporary design helps elevate this kitschy and beloved space.
Along with their cocktails, we wanted to show off their featured dinner items as well using illustrations. The images feature items all associated with the dishes on their menu. This was to help reinforce the stories that remind us of their locally sourced products.
